Why Ryan Seacrest Won't Replace Regis

Ryan Seacrest could be getting yet another hosting gig, reportedly on the short-list to replace Regis Philbin on "Live With Regis and Kelly."

If chosen, Seacrest would sit next to actress Kelly Ripa, who has served as Philbin's co-host for the last decade.

But it is unlikely Seacrest will take Philbin's place for pure logistical reasons. "Live" is taped in New York, and from January until May Seacrest is stuck in Los Angeles for American Idol. It would be really hard for him to fly out every morning and then back for live Idol episodes two times a week, never mind the whole three-hour time difference.

Second, there's money. Seacrest would almost certainly command a high premium to co-host the breakfast talk show, and after recently striking a deal with Katie Couric, I'm not sure how much parent company Walt Disney would be willing to shell out.

Other potential contenders include TV host and Bravo executive Andy Cohen,  and actor Mark Consuelos, who happens to be Ripa's husband.
