Idol Judges: Who's In, Who's Out

(Updated on Aug. 18)

American Idol has become more about the drama of selecting judges then the competition. Every day another report surfaces speculating on whose been fired, walked out, or on the short-list of possible replacements, leaving a sour taste in my mouth for what's to come on Season 10.

So who will actually be in the judges' chairs come January. Here we will keep you updated on the status of each judge and replacements. This is what we know so far:

Simon Cowell and Ellen Degeneres are definately eliminated from Season 10. The fate of Kara DioGuardi is still uncertain and while Randy Jackson is expected to remain, even his place isn't guaranteed as of Aug. 11. The only constant for Season 10 is Ryan Seacrest. With Nigel Lythgoe back in the producer seat, I wouldn't be surprised if he wiped out all the judges and started new.

Steven Tyler reportedly will definately fill one of the vacant chairs, according to E! Online, though Fox has not yet commented on the Aerosmith singer. Jennifer Lopez may also not be out of the running, even after gossip ran that the diva's hectic schedule and high paycheck knocked her out of the short list of candidates.

Everyone from Mariah Carey to Donald Trump have popped up as wanting to fill the role. Other candidates include: Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, P.Diddy, Harry Connick Jr., Chris Isaak, Nigel Lythgoe, Bret Michaels, Piers Morgan (America's Got Talent), Jessica Simpson and Victoria Beckham.

Amid this mess, auditions for Season 10 started last month. Apparently, the first round of preliminary auditions before potential contestants stand before the judges actually happens a month before the auditions that we actually see on TV (not in the same day as the producers make us believe). The call backs to audition in front of the judges will start in September, at the earliest, giving producers some time before they have to nail down the final judges.
Possible replacement judges for 'American idol' judge Simon Cowell that have been mentioned in the media buzz are shown in this combination of file photos May 26, 2010. Clockwise from top left are Harry Connick Jr., Antonio 'L.A.' Reid, Shania Twain, Piers Morgan, Howard Stern, Perez Hilton, Sir Elton john, Steve Lillywhite, Sean 'Diddy' Combs and Tommy Mottola. Cowell on Wednesday will end his nine year run as the judge Americans love to hate on American Idol , with no word on who will fill his shoes. Fox television executives have not said when they will make an announcement. REUTERS/Files (UNITED STATES - Tags: ENTERTAINMENT IMAGES OF THE DAY)
